FAQs

1. How Do I Decide on a Local Roofing Contractor?

When it comes to roofing, you want to take the time to evaluate your options. There are many roofers in Columbus and the surrounding areas to choose from, and the best roofer may not be the first person you call or the lowest priced quote may or may not be the right choice.

In order to determine the ideal roofer, consider the following:

  • Clear Proposals – It starts with the quality of the written proposal. Experienced, fair roofers will provide a detailed, easy to understand proposal with information that includes the type of roof, the maker of the roofing materials, additional materials used on the build, a complete listing of the scope of the project, the way that the roof will be installed, the warranty information, and more. The better contractors will be transparent, and will clearly describe the work and the pricing considerations.

  • Sensible Pricing – The least expensive is necessarily the best option. If you receive one quote that is much less than other quotes, it may be worth pausing and determining why. Great companies can still offer great prices, but there should be a clear and understandable reason for the pricing determination.

  • Warranty – Contractors regularly offer warranties. One warranty will be from the manufacturer of the shingles, and this can be as much as 20 years or more. The other will be the roofing contractor’s workmanship warranty. Take these warranties into consideration with the project.

Finally, don’t be afraid to look at reviews, ask about previous clients, or find out if you can see previous work. The quality of a great roofer can be seen in the projects that they have completed and the satisfied customers.

2. Why Hire Newman Roofing?

For the average homeowner, it can be challenging to tell the difference between roofers in Columbus, so most simply select the lowest quote. While Newman is frequently competitive, you should also consider additional factors, such as customer service, reliability, experience, and more.

Newman Roofing is a family owned business that employs only the best technicians, believes strongly in transparency and customer service, and works as efficiently as possible to complete your project. We know you have a choice in roofers, so we make it a goal of ours to show you how we try to excel in the field of residential and commercial roofing in Columbus.

3. Can I Hire a Roofer in Winter?

Absolutely. There are considerations that need to be made when you work with a roofer in winter. At Newman Roofing, we recommend waiting until the temperatures are above freezing when installing the roof. This will protect the integrity of the roof by allowing the shingles to seal and help to prevent shingles from blowing off.

4. I Am Home All Day – Will Roofing Be Noisy?

Sometimes. Roofing does require many tools that can and do often make loud noises. However, we’ll do our best to be as quiet as possible.

5. My Roofing Contractor Re-Used My Roof’s Flashings. Shouldn’t They Be Replaced?

In some cases, the flashings of the roof can be re-used. It is best to review the bid and the scope. If the roofer recommended new flashings – or any new materials – and did not provide them, then they are breaking the contract and the expectations. If they did not list them, then they were not included in the scope of the project, and may not have been necessary.

6. My Contractor Says Not To Use Asphalt on My Roof. Why?

The most common reason is because asphalt shingles require an angle of about 18 degrees for gravity to drain water off of the roof. If your roof is not at least 18 degrees in slope, the drainage may not work properly, requiring a different type of roof material.

7. What is the Best Way to Maintain the Roof?

Depending on the challenge, there are many different ways to maintain your roof. Newman roofing company will gladly answer any roofing maintenance questions while we’re working on the project if you find any concerns.

8. I Don’t Know Much About Roofing and I Have a Lot of Questions. Can You Help?
